Tom Wiscombe is the founder and principal designer at Tom Wiscombe Architecture based in Los Angeles. His constructions stand out as being a synthesis of form, pattern, color, and technology. A Senior Designer and Project Partner at Coop Himmelb(l)au for over 10 years, he was in charge of various internationally renowned projects, including the Dresden UFA Cinema Palace, the Lyon Musée des Confluences, BMW World, Munich, and the Akron Art Museum.

“Architecture is based on creating mystery and spatial tension between elements scubas building masses, interior spaces, surface articulation, and the ground.”

Wiscombe visited the spider, gecko, and bird labs at the University of Akron to discuss ideas about structure and the Biomimicry Center for Research and Innovation (BRIC).  Wiscomb met with students in drawing to discuss how he develops his projects that are a fusion of natural and constructed concerns.

Wiscombe teaches at Southern California Institute of Architecture.
